Help Support our

Bikes for Books Program

The Maine Masonic Charitable Foundation sponsors the Masonic Bikes for Books program to encourage students to read. In 2019 alone (before the pandemic), approximately 90 Masonic Lodges throughout Maine presented over 2,500 bicycles to children participating in reading programs in local schools and public libraries.  Even with school closures and remote learning, in 2020, over 70 Masonic Lodges were able to give away 1,240 bikes and in 2021, we again awarded over 1,200 bikes to deserving students.   Here we are in August 2023 and with the help of over 80 Masonic Lodges, we awarded over 1,660 bicycles (from April 2022 to March 2023).  And from April 2023 to now, we are off to a strong start this year and have awarded over 1,030 bicycles in just 4 months!

Read, read and read some more...keep up the good work kids!

Evidence shows that schools participating in the program are witnessing improved reading scores among their students. Books also enlighten, inspire, bring happiness and success, challenge our perspectives and provide comfort at difficult times in our lives.

Help us bring our Bikes for Books program to your school.
Help us encourage all Maine children to read.

It’s essential to establish a love for reading early in life. Towards that end, Masons in Maine are happy to bring the Masonic Bikes for Books program to students throughout Maine’s Elementary and Middle schools. The objectives of the program are threefold:

               • to increase student reading and comprehension skills
               • to recognize positive student achievements
               • to provide an attainable goal, with life enhancing results

Students are invited to participate in the program, and each time they read an age appropriate book, their name will go into the drawing; the more they read, the better their chances of earning a bike and safety helmet, which will be presented before the school closes for the summer.
