Masonic Charitable Foundation Sponsors Unified Champions Club Program

In partnership with the Alfond Youth & Community Center in Waterville [Boys & Girls Club and YMCA] and Special Olympics Maine, the Foundation is proud to be the founding sponsor for the Masonic Unified Champions Club Program.  This new program is about to bring inclusion in Central Maine to new heights and Masons in the 12th District will be leading the charge!  Thanks to funding provided by the Foundation – The Alfond Youth & Community Center (AYCC) in Waterville, Special Olympics (SO) Maine and the brothers of the 12th District (and their families) are creating the very first Masonic Unified Champions Club to promote a culture of inclusiveness and acceptance – one community of those with and without intellectual and physical disabilities. A program for coaches, athletes and spectators of all abilities to join in the fun and competition. EVERYONE is INVITED!!

“The experience of playing on a Unified team is like no other,” states Sawyer Boulette, Wellness Director for AYCC and current SO Board Member, “sportsmanship rules!”

Teams include half athletes with and half athletes without intellectual disabilities.  The program was launched in January 2020.  Be sure to visit the CALENDAR to see learn about current and upcoming programs.  You don’t have to be a great athlete to join, its really all about the attitude!  Don’t want to compete…no excuses…show up to any event and cheer them on!

Earlier this year, the program launched a Walking Club and Basketball “League” and coming soon are a Bocce Ball League [starting July 10th] and Cycling Club [starting July 6th].  Contact Erica at AYCC for more information and to volunteer erock@clubaycc.org.

Don’t miss the Fundraising event coming up in August, the Basketball Fundraiser on Saturday, August 8th at the AYCC from 8a – 12p. Athletes will be paired with a partner and each will shoot 50 shots and the made shots will be counted. Folks can make donations on a Per Shot Made basis, or give a flat donation. Use this online link to donate.    There will be prizes for those that raise the most and that make the most shots!
